LlamaIndex sells document parsing and knowledge-agent infrastructure on top of a popular open-source framework. On March 4, 2025 the company said it raised a $19 million Series A led by Norwest, with Greylock participating, for $27.5 million total, and named Rakuten, Carlyle, Salesforce, and KPMG. It also said the framework had more than 3 million monthly downloads. No revenue, valuation, or margin was in that disclosure.

DimensionScore (1–5)Notes & sources
Real customers & revenue quality
Are there named paying customers, recurring revenue, and retention evidence?
3/5
Per LlamaIndex, LlamaParse customers include Rakuten, Carlyle, Salesforce, and KPMG, and the parser had handled hundreds of millions of documents. Revenue is not disclosed.
Unit economics
Do gross margins survive inference/compute costs? Is pricing durable?
UnknownUnknown — no public figure found.
Moat
Proprietary data, distribution, switching costs, or tech that is hard to copy?
3/5
Per the company, the open-source framework has more than 3 million monthly downloads and almost 40,000 GitHub stars, and LlamaParse is offered as SaaS or on-prem with SOC 2 Type 2. Adoption is broad; the parsing step is still contestable.
Platform risk
Could a model provider or incumbent ship this as a feature? (higher score = lower risk)
2/5
LlamaIndex sits between enterprise files and someone else's models. A model lab or a neighboring ETL product can offer parsing and retrieval without this framework.
Team & execution
Shipping cadence, leadership track record, stability.
3/5
Norwest's Dave Zilberman, quoted by the company, credited the founding team with shipping enterprise features and said customers were already lined up. The March 2025 post is the latest execution record found.
Funding vs. traction
Is capital raised justified by verifiable traction?
3/5
Per LlamaIndex, the Series A was $19 million and total capital was $27.5 million. Named enterprise users exist. There is no public revenue figure to compare with that capital.
Hype signals
Demo-driven marketing, vague metrics, valuation outrunning evidence? (higher score = fewer red flags)
3/5
The round size is modest relative to peer agent-framework valuations, and the company did not publish a valuation. The gap is missing revenue, not a contradicted metric.
